After reading the first 2 books, I looked forward to the culmination of this series. Three things prevented me from finishing this book: the first is not the author's fault, but Kindle's. Random italics create a HuGe diStrActiOn!
However, there is also too much overlap in this book, where the Emily Hanson/Brogan Tulloch story gets repeated and retold with discrepancies!
Third, and most important : I read Christian fiction for many reasons, including a respite from words like Evolution and Climate Change. So, it is jarring and unpleasant to encounter references to evolution in a supposedly faith-fiction novel for which I have paid $10. Secularism invades one more bastion.

A satisfying ending to the trilogy. Michael Phillips at his finest. The mix of local culture and history are blended well with examples of moral courage and inspiration that are based upon commitment in lives that follow Jesus Christ.
I really enjoyed this series. I could not wait to read each one to see what the Michael had in store for me in each book. This being the climax of them all continued to keep me guessing as to the final conclusion. Some were nice surprises.
This was so enjoyable read, but I felt it really should have had a bit more occur...and finish this with two books. Some of the time hop took away from the needed explanation and dialogue from each story. I missed his usual dialogue that's in his stories. Enjoyed it, but it was a bit rushed...and I felt rather distant from the characters at times.
Amazing writings from one of Michael Phillips. Thought-provoking, inciteful, challenging. Not a light read, but a book to challenge your heart and soul, inspiring you to be all God has for you in life! Highly recommended series.
Could not put these books down. Be sure you know it’s a trilogy and get all three!! I picked up the first one The Inheritance and read it on a trip to Ireland not paying attention and realizing it was a trilogy. Ordered the remaining two as soon as I got home!

I read this trilogy straight through. I've read countless books by Phillips, starting back to his revisions of George MacDonald. I became a fan. This is no fluff Christian fiction, but a story sprinkled liberally with truth. The characters grow and change towards God and its remarkable. I often wish his characters were real. I want to step onto Whales Reef and meet them all.
Michael Phillips is one of my all-time favorite authors. The Legacy, a third in The Secrets of The Shetlands trilogy, is fascinating, and an exciting conclusion to a beautiful story covering several generations. I particularly was taken with the chapters covering World War II.
He emphasizes the spiritual history of both the Scottish and American characters. He weaves a fascinating story of how Christians from entirely different nationalities, denominations, and centuries share common beliefs which heal and draw them together.
Be sure to start with number 1, The Inheritance, then number 2, The Cottage, and then #3, The Legacy.
