Nice story about being pregnant while renovating a house in the countryside of England and planning a wedding. I enjoy the English sense of humor and the writing style of many writers from "across the pond"; this book fit the bill wonderfully. Not overly burdened with details of the renovation, but a pleasant blend of all the elements of its story. Of course there's one grouchy old neighbor, but he doesn't figure too heavily either- just enough. All together a great evening/beach read, well worth the time and money.

The Unorthodox Arrival of Pumpkin Allan The Pumpkin Allan Series Book 1 edition by Suzie Twine Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

When I bought this book I wasn't aware it was set in merry old England (actually modern day England) so I was doubly surprised when I couldn't understand some of the terms and figures of speech used. But about halfway through the novel my internal British-to-American translator turned itself on and I was more confident in my interpretation . I was expecting a zany British comedy, I.e. The 'Burbs, starring Benny Hill. It did have instances of humor but it definitely wasn't slapstick. The main characters were likeable, if not relatable. A short read with a few editing errors.
Very enjoyable book about the lives of a variety of characters set in the English countryside. My favorite character may have been Jack who is comical and tragic in the sweetest since. The story follows the ordeals of Lois who is trading her high stress job for the even higher stress of remodeling, moving, and preparing for motherhood. She meets a colorful assortment of new neighbors, some wonderful and some 'interesting.' I enjoyed the comedy as well as the warmth of this tail. Light reading but nicely packed with surprising people brought to life in an entertaining way.
A light and enjoyable read though a bit predictable in places. The characters were charming as far as they went, it almost seemed an introduction to more stories to come perhaps. At times there were so many neighbors introduced in a short span, it was difficult to remember who was who. Good summer read!
Just darling, with laugh out loud portions that you will remember for the rest of the day long after you finish this story. I hope that you enjoy reading this story as much as I did. The story revolves around an unmarried couple, who are also having a baby and buying a cottage outside of London. The couples new neighbors provide lots of (characters) to give this story amusing scenes and a few really did make me laugh out loud. Enjoy
The title of this book, The Unorthodox Arrival of Pumpkin Allan, by Suzie Twine, caught my eye, and after reading the brief synopsis, was intrigued. I fell in love with this book from the beginning! Ms. Twine did an amazing job describing each well-thought out character. Having grown up and still living in a small rural community, I immediately recognized a few of my neighbors in her characters! The Unorthodox Arrival of Pumpkin Allan is a light-hearted read full of laugh-out-loud moments that I found difficult to put down. Others have mentioned "gratuitous use of the 'f' word in their review. I would like to mention my edition did NOT contain that word. All in all, I gave The Unorthodox Arrival of Pumpkin Allan 5 stars because I found it to be charming and extremely entertaining, with well-rounded characters and an interesting storyline. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to reading more books about these charming characters!
What a marvelous story and even more marvelous characters. Exceptional, light reading and thoroughly enjoyable. To prove how dumbed down we are, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS MADE INTO A MOVIE or BBC SERIES. Bravo
I have a problem with this book. The other people here in the bar where my boyfriend is setting up to DJ probably think I am a total loon. I have been sitting here laughing so hard I could barely see to read. This book is absolutely delightful! It is a very pleasant story without vampires, murderers, or other typical sorts so often found in books today. There is a drug dealer but he is a minor character although he was responsible for much of the laughter. The people are quirky, likeable, every day folks you might recognize. The story is engaging primarily because you come to care for them quickly. I can't recommend this book enough. Well done Suzie Twine. I look forward to reading more from you!
